This Tuesday, 18th November, at 2:30 p.m. (Brasília time), the Government of Brazil and the COP30 Presidency will host the high-level event “Global Ethical Stocktake: a collective ethical effort for climate action” in the Blue Zone.
Representing Brazil, the event will feature the Brazil’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva; the CEO of COP30, Ana Toni; and the Secretary for Climate, Energy, and Environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maurício Lyrio. Also attending is Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and co-lead of the Europe Regional Dialogue.
As one of the four leadership circles of COP30, the Global Ethical Stocktake (GES) aims to engage diverse sectors of society in the conference. Inspired by the first Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement, concluded at COP28 in Dubai, the initiative follows the same direction that led nearly 200 countries to commit to expanding renewable energy, increasing energy efficiency, combating deforestation, and advancing an orderly, just, and equitable transition away from fossil fuels.
In recent months, the GES convened six regional dialogues across all continents, bringing together Indigenous and community leaders, political, religious and spiritual representatives, civil society actors, as well as scientists, artists, and activists. The discussions focused on pathways for a genuine ecological transformation—grounded not only in already available technical solutions, but in a global ethical commitment to put them into practice.
The results have been consolidated in a report that will be delivered today to the COP30 Presidency and the UNFCCC.
Confirmed participants include:
– Brazil’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva
